Talent Focus has witnessed exceptional growth in Queensland, both in new jobs during the June 2023 quarter, and in our local Talent Focus team.
The growth in our QLD team can attributed to the strategic leadership of QLD Director, Rowan Gaunt. With over 16 years of experience in Sales and Recruitment, Rowan has successfully established and expanded a formidable recruitment team in just under 12 months.
Positive growth in Queensland Job Market
I am pleased to see the positive job market trends in Queensland, especially in key sectors such as Construction and Healthcare,” reflects Rowan. “According to latest employment figures* released by the Queensland Government, the construction industry has experienced the largest overall increase in employment for the year, up by an impressive 11.4%. This growth can be attributed to the robust demand for residential housing and the implementation of state-run infrastructure projects.”
Rowan Gaunt continues, “In the June quarter, the Healthcare and social assistance sector made the largest contribution to employment change, with a notable increase of 1.1%. This growth can be partially attributed to the population rebounding post pandemic and the rise in skilled immigration. The healthcare industry’s importance has been emphasized during these challenging times, and it’s encouraging to witness its positive impact on employment.”
As Talent Focus continues to navigate the evolving job market landscape, Rowan Gaunt remains dedicated to assisting both employers and job seekers. “By staying informed about the market trends and understanding the specific needs of our clients and candidates, we strive to provide tailored recruitment solutions that align with the ever-changing dynamics of the Queensland job market.”
Recent trends seen in Teaching Jobs in Brisbane, also seen nationally.
Along with the statistics mentioned above, our resident expert – Megan Gibb, National Education Manager – provides an update on trends seen in Education Recruitment and notable changes in Teaching Jobs in Brisbane, but also reflected at a national level.
“The teaching profession has long faced a staffing problem. Recent research found that 40% of teachers leave the profession after their first five years of teaching. This rises to an estimated half of all teachers working in core subjects like maths, science and languages. The government has pledged to raise salaries and introduce retention incentives to help tackle this. Yet, for the foreseeable future, schools will still find it tougher to fill some of their most important posts” said Megan Gibb.
Megan continues, “This imbalance in the hiring market works in teacher’s favour, particularly when jobhunting. Schools know that experienced teachers are a scarce and valuable commodity. This strengthens the applicants’ position when negotiating pay packages and working conditions.”
“Teachers want more flexibility over permanent ongoing work, where they are swamped with marking and paperwork. 90% of teachers believe that flexible working options in schools could be improved. In schools where flexible working has been introduced, 85% of staff have reported an improvement in their well-being.”
Megan concluded, “Teachers want more chance to progress in their career. Opportunity for more professional development and support across the schools. There has just been an increase in wages and an increase will continue to happen every financial year.”
